![]() ![]() To break it down - if i configure a static address: What has to be in place for the vm to ping the host? What has to be in place for the host machine to ping the vm (this doesnt work for either DHCP assigned ipv6 or static ipv4 address)? What is the relationship between the IP address assigned to a virtual switch and the ip config on the guest vm? Presumably Hyper-v somehow takes the ip traffic from the vm and passes it to the switch and the guest knows nothing about the switch? So some dumb questions first - what is the DHCP server that the vm is trying to connect to - is this not some local network the host manages or does it need external access via the wifi to find the DHCP server in the network? ![]() Having read a zillion posts - lots of issues out there but nothing i can find that works or adequately explains. In vagrant/virtualbox, IP addresses are assigned and the bridge made automatically. In both cases it doesnt seem to be able to reach the host machine at all. Static ip address and it boots quickly but doesnt connect. If I use the basic VM setup instructions, create a new Internal switch then the vm on boot tries DHCP - times outs after 5 minutes then reports an IPv6 address, scope:Link. I want to migrate my vagrant/virtualbox ubuntu vms to avoid reboot but. ![]() Virtualbox installed (but cant run it because Hyper-v enabled - i reboot into non hyper-v mode) Docker-CE creates docker VM with internet access, no problem, (via wifi but not sure why this should matter - i just want to use the host machines current network access not a specific physical device).
